President's Message
Greetings Maine Chapter Members, Sponsors, and Guests,
On behalf of the Board of Directors from the Maine Chapter of HFMA, I would like to welcome you to your HFMA website. As you look at each of the web pages you will find detailed information about our chapter as well as national HFMA issues. We update educational information on a weekly if not daily basis, so check back often to see what is new.
During our Chapter’s long and proud history, we have established a local, regional, and national reputation for excellence in education, talented and dedicated volunteers, and improving the healthcare industry through the advancement of best practices. Nothing exemplifies our commitment to education more than the two educational awards we earned in 2009. I am proud to announce that the Maine Chapter of HFMA was awarded both the C. Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement, and the John M. Stagl Silver Award of Excellence for Education at ANI in Seattle.
The 2009-2010 National HFMA Chairman is Catherine A. Jacobson, FHFMA, CPA from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. The National theme embraced by Ms. Jacobson is “Making it Count”. Healthcare finance professionals have a passion for making it count: applying their professional skills to the cause of building the best possible healthcare system. Health care is one of the most complex, illogical, and frustrating fields in which to practice finance. It carries high levels of scrutiny and risk, and it is not highly remunerative. However, a certain type of finance professional is drawn to health care. This professional is driven by the cause of health care and sees his or her talents as a means to improve the strength of our healthcare system. The opportunity to make it count makes healthcare finance one of the most worthwhile and rewarding careers that one could choose.
HFMA is prepared to help you make it count. Whether through educational opportunities, professional development, or sharing experiences HFMA provides you the tools to make it count at your organization. “Making it Count” also applies to your HFMA membership. Volunteers are at the heart of our Chapter’s success, and there are positions available to fit any schedule. To learn more, please contact me.
I would also like to thank our Corporate Sponsors for helping our Chapter provide the high quality educational programs that our members have come to expect. Through their generous support we are able to deliver fantastic educational and networking events. If your organization is interested in becoming a Corporate Sponsor, please contact me.
Our Chapter Officers and Directors are pleased to serve you and would enjoy hearing from you. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact us.
Very truly yours,
Dayton Benway
President 2009-2010
